The liberation of Bulgaria is the biggest holiday of our country. Third of March is a great date that has left lasting imprints in the minds of many Bulgarians today, because everyone needs freedom, because freedom is the greatest happiness in the world. We celebrate 143 years since the conclusion of the San Stefano Peace Treaty, which officially announced the beginning of the Third Bulgarian State. The liberation of Bulgaria is a long process, full of heroism, self-sacrifice, suffering and most of all with a desire for change, for freedom, for victory. Every year on March 3, Shipka Peak celebrates the anniversary of the Liberation. Shipka is a monument of freedom, where the most important and fateful battle is fought. In August 1877 7,500 Bulgarian volunteers and Russian soldiers stop the march of the 27,000-strong army to Northern Bulgaria at the cost of their lives. The defense of Shipka is entrusted to General Stoletov. At the critical moment, fighters sent by General Radetski arrive. In this battle, Russians and Bulgarians won a historic victory. The Russian-Turkish war of liberation ended with the signing of the San Stefano Peace Treaty in the town of San Stefano. Assistants of the Russian government during the negotiations were Count Ignatiev and Alexander Nelidov. As a result of the negotiations, the treaty was signed. The border that covers our country is from almost the entire ethnic territory of the Bulgarian people. On March 3, thousands of people climbed to the top to honor the memory of those who died for the freedom of Bulgaria. We remember the characters and their deeds. They invariably accompany the life and destiny of every Bulgarian generation, because they left us a sublime example of patriotism.
